Scope of Works:

This project was also part of Pacific Airports Improvement Programme and delivered in tandem with Vava’u Airport. Improvement works delivered were for supply of surfacing, line marking, sweeping and haulage of aggregate/hotmix and plant to the international runway worksite. We resourced the project with a team of highly experienced asphalt paving personnel who laid a total of 15,000 tonnes of Hotmix.

The airport continued to operate, which required some works to be carried out at night. This demanded works to be finished efficiently to a high standard, ahead of the airport re-opening the following morning. The scope of activities undertaken included:

• Heating containerised bitumen
• Application of seal enrichment coat to taxiway areas and first seal coats to aircraft turning nodes
• Tack coating a total of 122,000m2 of runway asphalted areas prior to laying, overnight
• Reinstatement of line marking on asphalted areas and remark of all markings, overnight
• Mechanical repairs to offshore plant

The Tongatapu Airport improvements were completed in line with the required programme without delays, issues or H&S incidents. All works were of a very high quality, required no rework and were delivered within budget.
